Just started my last handmade sketchbook. These use canvas covers I printed various collage artwork on. We made them using tag board wrapped in canvas, with heavy fine art paper signatures, hand-bound. They have worn quite well over the years, being beaten up in my daypack, exposed to humidity, storms, rained on, and dragged through dirt. Like the drawings inside, they have a history of their own.
We visited Tsubaki Shrine near Granite Falls yesterday, on a beautiful sunny January day. I love the peaceful setting here, with the majestic old cedar trees and Pilchuck River. We do the usual routine – visiting the purification fountain, then showing respect in front of the sacred object, and finally getting our fortune for the new year. Buddhist temples continue to influence my new drawings.
